Shaping futures
There is a balance between structured learning through child-initiated activities and those directed by a Keyworker.
A well planned curriculum gives children opportunities to be creatively involved in their own learning which must build on what they already know and can do, their interests and what they understand.
Active learning enhances and extends children’s development.
Learning through informal but structured activities the children receive a basic understanding in the areas of:
Personal and Social Development
Mathematics
Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
Knowledge and Understanding of the World We Live In
Physical Development
Creative Development
Multiculturalism / Bilingualism
Grandparents Day, Sports Day, Easter Bonnet Parades, Christmas Concerts and a Graduation Ceremony for school leavers are among the highlights of the nursery calendar. Parents are also encouraged to attend regular parents evenings. Your child’s progress is assessed and recorded through frequent observation and is discussed regularly with parents.
We liaise with other professionals such as Health Visitors. These contacts are used in planning for individual children. When your child leaves Acorns you will be presented with a record of their experiences, and children are encouraged to regularly bring home their artistic masterpieces and delicious cooking!
For older children our educational provision is holistic with your child at the heart of any planned curriculum. Each of our nurseries in Wales implement the Foundation Learning for Wales framework, whilst in Bristol we follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum. Our involvement in your child’s play is of vital importance particularly when interaction involves open questioning, and shared and sustained thinking.
Teachers and Nursery Nurses are trained to understand, inspire and challenge all children’s potential for learning.
